What a Dubai hair-transplant menu actually quotes you
Across the Dubai clinic menus and booking flows we checked, a hair transplant almost always opens with a small, friendly number. FUE from AED 6,900. Sapphire from AED 8,900. A per-graft line of AED 5-15 tucked underneath. Next to that figure sits a before-and-after of a full hairline, the kind of result that very obviously did not come from the floor price. That gap is where most readers get lost.
Here is the part the headline leaves out. A hair transplant is priced by graft count, not by a flat fee, and most scalp cases run 1,500 to 4,000 grafts. So the from number is a floor for a small session, and the quote you eventually get over WhatsApp is built from how many grafts your scalp actually needs. The honest figure is the graft count against a per-graft price, not the teaser. Once you read the menus that way, the AED 6,900 stops being a price and starts being a starting line.
This guide sorts the techniques by the job they do, sets out what a real Dubai course costs in 2026, walks through recovery and the risks that get glossed over, and closes on the bit that genuinely separates a safe Dubai clinic from a risky one: who is legally allowed to hold the punch. For the clinics themselves, our Hair Restoration directory lists the ones we have checked.
A quick word on who hair restoration suits. Surgery needs a donor area, usually the back and sides, where follicles are genetically resistant to thinning. PRP and laser therapy need surviving follicles to work on, so they support thinning, not bare scalp. Scalp micropigmentation grows nothing and is cosmetic camouflage. Women's loss tends to be diffuse thinning along the part rather than a receding hairline, success rates are comparable to men, and the unshaven techniques below are often why women can have surgery without a visible recovery.

The treatments, sorted by what they do
Surgery that regrows hair from your own follicles
FUE, follicular unit extraction, lifts individual follicular units from the donor area with a micro-punch and places them into pre-made channels. Graft survival sits around 90-95% in experienced hands, and the regrowth is permanent because the transplanted follicles keep their resistance to DHT, the hormone behind pattern loss.
DHI, direct hair implantation, uses a Choi implanter pen that makes the incision and places the graft in one motion. That allows denser packing and, importantly, it can often be done without shaving the recipient area, which is why it suits women who do not want a visible recovery.
Sapphire FUE is FUE performed with sapphire-tipped blades to open finer channels, which can mean faster healing and tidier density. It is a refinement of the extraction-and-placement method, not a separate procedure, so treat the Sapphire label as a small premium rather than a different operation.
FUT, the strip method, removes a strip of donor scalp and dissects the grafts from it. It is generally the cheapest route and yields a high graft count in a single session, but it leaves a linear donor scar. For that reason FUE and DHI are preferred for anyone keloid-prone or with darker skin, which is the regional norm.
Surgery for other areas
The same techniques restore beard and eyebrow areas. Graft counts are lower than a full scalp case, and eyebrow work is usually cheaper than scalp restoration because it needs fewer grafts, though dense beard cases can climb.
Maintenance and non-surgical, where no new follicle is created
PRP, platelet-rich plasma, concentrates the platelets from your own blood and injects them into the scalp, where the growth factors prolong the follicle's active growth phase and improve local blood supply. It works only where living follicles remain, which makes it a course of maintenance rather than a cure.
Mesotherapy micro-injects a cocktail of vitamins, peptides and sometimes minoxidil or finasteride into the scalp. The evidence behind it is more limited and mixed than PRP, so set expectations accordingly.
Low-level laser therapy, LLLT, uses light to stimulate the follicle's mitochondria. It suits early thinning and does little for advanced baldness.
Scalp micropigmentation, SMP, is medical tattooing that mimics the look of shaved stubble or adds the illusion of density. It regrows nothing, and it fades over years, so it is camouflage that needs maintenance, not a treatment.

INDICATIVE MARKET ESTIMATE
Read that block as a set of floors and bands, not fixed prices. The from figure on a menu is the lowest a clinic will go for a small session. The real quote tracks your graft count, so a 2,500-graft FUE case lands well inside the AED 10,000-25,000 band rather than near the AED 6,900 teaser. DHI carries a premium for the denser, unshaven work, with a defensible band of AED 15,000-35,000.
The non-surgical lines need a second multiplication. PRP and mesotherapy are charged per session but only work as a course of 3 to 6, so a single-session price of AED 700-2,500 for PRP becomes AED 2,000-12,000+ across a proper course. SMP and LLLT are multi-session plans too. Take any per-session figure and multiply it by the course length before you compare it to surgery.
Dubai sits above Turkey on price, roughly USD 4,100-5,450 against USD 2,500-3,000 for a comparable FUE. That difference is regulation, not markup. Dubai requires a hair-restoration-specific licence, mandatory adverse-event reporting and unannounced inspections, and those obligations sit inside the price. What you are paying for is the system that decides who is allowed to operate on you, which is the next section.
Recovery and the risks worth knowing
Surgery is done under local anaesthesia and is largely painless during the procedure itself. Afterwards, expect some swelling, redness, itching and scabbing across the recipient and donor areas. That is the normal post-op picture, not a complication.
Then comes shock loss. At weeks 2 to 4 the transplanted hairs commonly shed, affecting an estimated 30-70% of patients. It looks alarming if no one warned you, and it is entirely expected. The follicle stays; only the visible hair sheds before it regrows. The scalp itself heals over 7 to 14 days. Early regrowth begins around months 3 to 4, you see roughly 60-70% of the final result by months 5 to 6, and near-complete density at 9 to 12 months. Anyone promising a finished look in a few weeks is selling the teaser, not the timeline.
One risk deserves a direct mention here, because of who lives in the UAE. Keloid scarring is more common in Fitzpatrick IV-VI skin, which is the regional norm. If you have any history of keloid or raised scarring, disclose it before booking. A careful clinic may offer a small test area first, and will favour FUE or DHI over FUT precisely because those methods avoid the linear donor scar.
Choosing a clinic safely, the part that is specific to Dubai
This is where a Dubai guide either earns its place or reads like every other page. The rules are concrete and they are enforced.
Surgery must be performed by a DHA-licensed physician holding hair-transplant privilege, a plastic surgeon, dermatologist, general surgeon or qualifying GP, with ABHRS or FISHRS certification and at least 2 years of recent, logged experience. Technicians may assist with extraction and graft preparation under direct physician supervision only. They cannot run the surgery on their own. The relevant rules sit in the DHA Standards for Hair Transplant Services, and DHA backs them with unannounced inspections under its hair-transplant inspection checklist.
The non-surgical side is regulated too. Under the DHA Standards for Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures, effective 18 February 2025, PRP is permitted in the face and hair only, not the body. Procedures delivered by nurses or beauty therapists must follow a written plan from a consultant or specialist dermatologist or plastic surgeon, and those staff must hold the DHA Licensed Technician title. Any device used must be registered with the UAE health regulator.
So the practical takeaway, the thing to do before you put down a deposit. Ask who is holding the punch, by name and credential. Ask to see the physician's licence and ABHRS or FISHRS certification. And get the price as a per-graft figure set against a stated graft count, never a headline alone. If a clinic will give you a glossy before-and-after but not a graft count and a named surgeon, you have your answer.
