What cosmetic dentistry covers, and who it suits

The first thing Dubai sells you is the single tooth. A neat little number on a clinic menu, sometimes under AED 500, sitting next to a photo of a full smile that very clearly did not stop at one tooth. Veneers from AED 490. Bonding from AED 200. Zoom whitening from AED 750. Across the Dubai clinic menus, price pages and booking flows we checked, that small "from" number is doing a lot of quiet work, and almost none of it is the work you actually want done.

Cosmetic dentistry is the part of dental care aimed at how a smile looks rather than only how it functions, though the honest cases sit in both. It covers whitening, composite bonding, porcelain and composite veneers, crowns, clear aligners such as Invisalign, gum contouring, implants, and the planned combinations marketed as a Hollywood smile or smile makeover. Some of it is reversible and finishes in an afternoon. Some of it permanently changes the tooth underneath and is meant to last a decade or more.

It suits people who have a specific thing they want fixed: teeth that have darkened with coffee and age, a chipped or worn front edge, a gap, crowding, gums that sit too high or too low, or a missing tooth. It suits you less well, for now, if there is active gum disease, untreated decay, or unmanaged grinding, because a good clinic treats those first and builds the cosmetic result on top of a healthy mouth. The reader this guide is written for is the one staring at that AED 490 line and trying to work out what the real number is.

Patient receiving an in-clinic teeth whitening treatment under a blue LED light

In-chair whitening uses a peroxide gel activated by blue LED light, lifting surface and deeper stains in a single supervised session rather than over weeks of at-home trays.

The treatments, sorted by the job they do

It is easier to choose when the options are grouped by what you want changed rather than by clinical category.

Whiter, the same teeth. In-clinic whitening, Zoom and laser whitening, and take-home custom trays all use peroxide to break apart stain molecules inside natural enamel. This is the cheapest, fastest route to a visible change, and it is purely cosmetic. It does nothing to veneers, crowns or fillings, which keep their original colour, so whitening is usually done before any porcelain work so the new pieces can be matched to the lighter shade.

Reshape what is there, reversibly. Composite bonding and composite veneers build up tooth-coloured resin onto the existing tooth to close a small gap, rebuild a chipped edge or even out shape. Little or no enamel is removed, the work is done in a single visit, and it can be adjusted or undone later. It is the lower-commitment option, and it stains and chips sooner than porcelain.

Rebuild the front, permanently. Porcelain and E.max veneers are thin ceramic shells bonded to the front of the tooth after roughly 0.3 to 0.5mm of enamel is shaped away. That enamel does not grow back, so this is irreversible: a veneered tooth needs a veneer or crown for the rest of its life. Crowns cover the whole tooth and come in zirconia (stronger, better for back teeth and grinders) or E.max (more translucent, more natural at the front). The full porcelain smile is usually eight to ten of these across the visible arch.

Straighten. Invisalign and other clear aligners move teeth over months using a series of removable trays, an alternative to fixed braces for mild to moderate crowding and spacing.

Fix the gum frame. Gum contouring, also called gingivectomy, reshapes the gum line where teeth look short or the smile looks uneven. It is often done alongside veneers so the frame matches the new teeth.

Replace missing teeth. Single implants set a titanium fixture into the jaw to carry a crown. All-on-4 and All-on-6 restore a whole arch on four or six implants, often with a fixed temporary set of teeth fitted the same day while the implants fuse underneath.

The planned combination. A Hollywood smile or smile makeover is not one treatment but a case plan, frequently mapped out with Digital Smile Design, that combines whitening, veneers, crowns, gum work and sometimes implants to a single designed result.

Woman having her teeth cleaned with an ultrasonic dental scaler

An ultrasonic scaler clears plaque and hardened tartar with high-frequency vibrations, giving veneers, bonding and whitening a clean surface to bond to and a more even result.

What it costs in Dubai in 2026

Here is where the single-tooth "from" price separates from the case price. The ranges below come from public Dubai clinic menus and price pages we checked, resolved into honest case ranges rather than the entry hooks.

A few things the bars are telling you. A sub-AED 500 veneer or an AED 200 bonding is an entry price for one tooth, not the smile in the photo. A full porcelain smile of ten veneers lands closer to AED 18,000 to 30,000, and a six-veneer composite smile around AED 4,800 to 9,000, once Digital Smile Design, build-ups, X-rays and temporaries are added. Several treatments carry open-ended ceilings for a reason: a single implant runs from about AED 3,000 to 6,000 at the budget end up to AED 12,000 to 20,000 for a Straumann or Nobel Biocare fixture, and premium full-mouth All-on-4 work can reach AED 45,000 to 90,000 per arch at the top clinics. Where the jaw needs rebuilding first, a bone graft (AED 1,500 to 4,000) or sinus lift (AED 3,000 to 8,000) is added on top.

Insurance is the other honest note. Purely cosmetic dentistry is generally excluded from UAE health cover, so whitening, veneers and a Hollywood smile usually come out of pocket. Work with a functional reason, such as a crown on a cracked tooth or an implant for a lost one, is sometimes treated differently, which is worth checking with your insurer before you commit.

How to choose a clinic safely

The trust question in Dubai has a clear legal answer. Only a dentist licensed by the Dubai Health Authority may practise here, under UAE Federal Law No. 4 of 2015. The DHA issues five licence tiers (General, Specialist, Consultant, Intern and Resident) and publishes binding scope-of-practice rules by specialty. Veneers and crowns sit under Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, implants and All-on-4 under Implant Dentistry and Oral Surgery, gum contouring under Periodontics, and Invisalign under Orthodontics. Hygienists and dental assistants work under supervision with a limited scope, and Federal Decree-Law No. 4 of 2016 on Medical Liability governs negligence. Whitening, worth saying plainly, is a defined dental procedure that belongs inside a licensed facility, not a mall kiosk or a salon chair.

So the first checks are the boring ones that matter most. Confirm the dentist holds a current DHA licence and that the licence covers the work you want, which you can verify on the DHA's own register. Ask who is doing each part of the case.

Then test the plan against your mouth, because candidacy is real. Veneers need healthy gums and enough enamel to bond to. Active gum disease, decay or untreated grinding should be treated before any cosmetic layer goes on, and a clinic that skips straight to the veneers without examining the foundation is a clinic to leave. Longevity is the other reality: porcelain veneers last roughly 10 to 15 years, with some sources citing 20 to 25 with careful aftercare, while composite veneers and bonding run about 4 to 8 years and stain sooner. Implants need 3 to 6 months to fuse with the jaw even when All-on-4 gives you a fixed temporary set the same day.

Before you pay, get the full case quote in writing, with the material named (E.max, zirconia, the implant brand) and an explicit list of what the "from" price excludes. Our Dubai dental directory lists DHA-licensed clinics with their specialties, and the cosmetic dentistry category groups them by the treatments above so you can compare like with like.

Sources

We built the price ranges from public Dubai clinic menus, price pages and booking flows checked in 2026, resolving "from" prices into honest per-case ranges and flagging open-ended ceilings rather than quoting a single figure. Every regulatory and safety claim is grounded in official UAE sources or equivalent authorities, and the ranges are indicative market estimates, not quotes, reviewed periodically.

This guide is informational only and not individual medical advice. Confirm any treatment, price and candidacy with a DHA-licensed clinic.
